Elton Smith is an artist who has shown a deep appreciation for quality house music. Whether it’s his exquisitely programmed DJ sets which continually exhibit a smooth progression throughout, or his intricate programming in his production, all that is important is deliverance of excellent music.

In a career spanning almost 10 years, Elton was drawn to dance music in London with early influences including Radio 1 stalwarts Pete Tong and Judge Jules. When the clubs beckoned, Seb Fontaine and Timo Mass always delivered the goods, in establishments such as Turnmills and The Cross. Very soon he purchased some vinyl and turntables and would play at any party he could, "I would go to parties and just ask to jump on the decks" . "It was a fun time!". Because the passion burnt so brightly for the music, the next stage in evolution was to learn to make this type of music. It is a journey that still continues today, and is continually evolving. "Every time i sit down to the computer, or read a magazine i learn something that helps me. I also use my influences to drive me and keep on top of my game. There is a lot of good music out there, so listening to a variety of genres really inspires me".

His journey has seen him DJ in clubs such as Turnmills in London and across Asia and in Australia. He is a regular on Kiss FM (www.soundcloud.com/eltonsmith) and in the major clubs in his hometown Melbourne but has recently found producing with an eclectic group of people with the same passion to be highly rewarding and satisfying. “To me there is nothing better than sitting down with a blank slate and seeing what becomes of it. Music brings people closer together and I have found that with my life”, he says.
This year has seen Elton string together a number of releases, including a three track EP on Eclesia records. The process came about after a meeting with the Eclesia boss, Seng Wei, in December 2010, and spanned 8 months. "I had actually sent Seng Grey Matter for some advice and potential release and it was then decided to proceed with an EP in line with Eclesias policy (www.eclesiarecords.com/). It was a long, sometimes fun and sometimes laborious project. I am happy with the results and have had positive feedback".

The three track EP has been described as this:

SSRI:

A track that starts of with a luscious groove and smooth arpeggiated sequence and builds to a frenzied crescendo at the end. Underlying this rhythm is a driving and low bottom end, giving the track plenty of energy. A must play track for those DJs looking to build their set up from a deep beginning.

Grey Matter:

A funky and driving track, it is characterized by a plucky baseline complemented by number of funky synth lines. A luscious brake serves to build tension before the last phase introduces a piano line that is evocative and nicely complements the increasing build of the track. One to get the dance floor moving!!

Central Sensitivity:

There is nothing sensitive about his track! It is characterised by a continually evolving synth line, dark synth stabs and a heavy kick/bass combination. A funky use of percussion, haunting female vocal echoes, and an epic breakdown cleverly leads to an end where the fusion of all of the elements heightens the intensity of the track.

Jacksonville, Florida's traditional Great American Songbook Singer/Songwriter Kim Hurley has loved to sing as long as she can remember. A girl who idolized Patsy Cline and the Bangles, she began playing the guitar at age 11. Somewhere between growing up, going to school, and learning to drive, Kim formed Tintern Abby in 1993. Tintern Abby, named after the Wordsworth Poem “Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey” originally started as a cover band to play at parties, but quickly, Kim began to harness an instinct for diversity in her own song writing. Most songs focused on the 1990s teenage girl dilemmas about heartache, dancing, and well, heartbreak, but quickly began to develop an aspiring maturity that set her in a musical milieu uniquely in its own propulsive excellence. With heavy influences from 10,000 Maniacs and Blake Babies, Tintern Abby continued to record throughout the band members’ high school years. Their first EP was entitled “By Myself” recorded in 1994 followed by a sophomore effort entitled “Missy” in 1995, finally to gather their wits and release the magical “Smell the Flowers” in 1996 which really showcased the unit’s chemistry with at that point after several very cohesive line-up changes.

Eventually, Tintern Abby disbanded in 1997 after recording one final album with Jim Devito that was never released, and the band went their separate ways. Kim formed the trio, the Kate Rays soon after in 1998 and continued to record and tour with a heavier, more confident sound that soared dynamically and texturally in her early 20s. The Kate Rays released “Kruize Kontrol” in 1999 and also filmed a music video for their popular song “Social Butterfly” in 2000. After 3 years of performing, recording in New York City and touring the eastern seaboard, opening for such bands as Death Cab for Cutie, American Analog Set, Apples in Stereo and Dada, the band went their separate ways and went on to other projects.

Early in this decade, Kim's love of the 1980's synth-pop musiqué led her to create the all girl cheer-rock band, affectionately named after the adolescent book series, Sweet Valley High. This all girl group was one of Hurley’s most cohesive line-ups to date and sold out its first show with dance routines and polished phonetic gems nodding again to the trials and tribulations of being a teenager and the humorous social idiosyncrasy in the normal roller coaster we describe as life. Now, in 2011 after gracefully building a family, and taking a long break from music, the bug we call the feverish musical instinct has bitten her again to record with the same instinctive timelessness. Kim records sweet auditory illuminations quietly at home and collaborates with other musicians to lend her captivating voice to anything that strikes her fancy. Kim recently collaborated with James Rowand on his quite elegant version of Australia's legendary The Church’s “Under the Milky Way.” I am sure everyone has had delightful romanticism soaring along a Pacific Coastal Highway in a 62' Corvette in the tradition 80's Joan Jett however, there is a distinctive melody and traditional American songbook that goes along with that aesthetic. Partecipa per due anni alla masterclass tenuta da Alicja Kledzik e collabora come pianista accompagnatrice con i maestri Antonel-lo Mostacci, Georg Mönch, Paolo Ravaglia ed Enrico Dindo. Through expressive brushwork and soft insinuations of light, the subject matter is often obscured and muted providing a hazy sensation to the pieces. I work mainly in oil paint, gouache and watercolor on paper, canvas, and wood panel. I’m interested in combining both the illusion of depth through subtle rendering, with the flatness and immediacy that spontaneous brush work can bring. This approach simultaneously invites the viewer into the work, while keeping them at the reality of a two-dimensional surface.
I often use nature as subject matter, inspired by the way 17th century Dutch still-life painters used flowers in paintings to serve as symbolic references to life, death and temporary beauty. I’m also inspired by calm landscapes, heroism, history, and some formal aspects of graffiti and cartoons, elements of each finding their way into the work in various ways." Ryan Coleman

Ars Sonor & Roberto Lazzarino - Onion in a Deep Space [demo] by Ars Sonor Onion in Deep Space, a pulsating, undulating sound art installation comprised of airy angelic breaths to the bleep-blipped rhythmatic chatter of a highly computational device. This collage of both futurist mentality & romance has a vice grip like presence from the first note of bassline, moaning, countering a backdrop of ohhhs & ahhhs, as if to express the introduction of budding conflict, but it is surely reconciled in the synthiest of gentle washes. It's an ethereal epic. All the mystifying melody of a Tim Hecker piece, but somehow it moves with more knowing, displaying its hand with a slow slyness. It is hi-end slickness, flaunting a wavy heart filled with desire, however slowly unfolding to its intent of aural evolution.

On January 8, 2011, a mass shooting occurred near Tucson, Arizona. Nineteen people were shot, six of them fatally, with one other person injured at the scene during an open meeting that U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords was holding with members of her constituency in a Casas Adobes Safeway supermarket parking lot. Those killed in the incident included United States District Court for the District of Arizona Chief Judge John Roll and one of Rep. Giffords's staffers. News reports identified the target of the attack as Giffords, a Democrat representing Arizona's 8th congressional district. She was shot through the head at point-blank range, and her medical condition was initially described as "critical".

"How did you start writing?" "My sister (Suzette Saxton) had this crazy idea about eight years ago. She told me she watched HOLES and Louis Sacahr, the author, said to write the book (which turned into the movie) all he did was work for one hour a day.Suzette dared me to write one hour a day, every day, for a year and see what happened. Well, we shook hands and that night I wrote my first two pages. I was 27, had only a little college education, and had a one-year-old daughter. Nine-ish years later, I have three more kids (age 4, 2, and 4 months), a book coming out next month, plus just sold the rights for two more books to my publisher."

"How did you finally get published?" "A whole lot of work and practice, a bit of luck, and tons of persistence! I wrote four books before SHIFTING, and will admit that none of them were even good enough to have a publisher look at. It took me many years of a lot of writing to become a good enough writer to come up with something publishable. On top of that, I got more than 200 rejections from agents on three different manuscripts (including SHIFTING). And then one day, after a lot of rejections and me giving up all hope of ever being published, my agent, Marlene Stringer, read my manuscript and wanted to rep me. She found my publisher (Walker Books, which is part of Bloomsbury."
